I had just finished reading Benjamin Pogrund’s book and I would recommend it to people who are interested in learning about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. This conflict is very complex and Israel is often accused of being an apartheid state. Benjamin Pogrund was editor of the Rand Daily Mail, a South African newspaper that was closed down in 1985, and he himself has a thorough knowledge of apartheid. He had been arrested and banned for his views and activities against apartheid. His passport was taken away from him a number of times. Eventually, it was returned to him and he emigrated to Israel where he founded the Yakar movement for peace and coexistence. He had researched his book by interviewing many Palestinians and Israelis. He starts his book giving a precis of his life and activities in South Africa as well as a short history of the Jewish People and their sufferings in Europe because of anti-Semitism over the centuries culminating in Israel’s establishment.The book at times is heavy going because of the incredible amount of statistics he gives on demography and other issues which he felt the reader should be aware.He also writes about South Africa under the White Apartheid Government. He is the ideal writer for a book as complex as this. He knows apartheid very well because of what he had experienced and he knows the Israeli psyche very well too. He does criticize Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians under their rule as well their suffering under occupation. Despite that, he maintains it is still far from apartheid.Pogrund refutes the argument that Israel is an apartheid state and he gives very good and convincing reasons for his conclusion. His book is well referenced and very informative. He has written objectively, which is a feat in itself. Many books on this subject are emotional and biased according to views of writers, who are more motivated by their ideology rather than presenting the truth and being objective. This book was written in 2014 and takes the reader up to the Gaza War. It, therefore, is a bit dated as much has happened after that. The Middle East and Israel are dynamic and the situation does change. However, the problems remain unchanged.

While I’m sure some will argue that Pogrund is too evenly-handed in his approach, I believe this is what gives the book its credibility. ‘Drawing Fire’ will not please those adherents of the maxim - “my country right or wrong".I contend that it is essential reading for those who are willing to approach the question with an open mind.In my view, anyone wishing to arm themselves effectively with the relevant facts to counter the apartheid canard should read ‘Drawing Fire’. It should be compulsory reading for students of history, political science and those advocates for Israel, whether serving in NGOs or Israel’s diplomatic service.Sir Harold Evan’s says it succinctly and poignantly in the foreword:"Everyone who cares about how Palestinians and Israelis may live together should read this compelling book.”

This is a thoroughly researched book from a writer who chooses to be as impartial as possible, which is rare in today's discussions of Israel. The book was dense with facts, but easy to read and the writer made his point, that Israel is NOT an apartheid state, without white washing what Israel does wrong. He shows both side, and how they have intersected in their history. He is very fair in his assessment of this subject.

Backed by statistics and well researched, this book will change and inform attitudes for both Jews and non-Jews, and destroy many preconceived ideas about Israel, the occupation of the West Bank and the way forward for Israel and the Palestinians.

If you want a compilation of Israeli government arguments as to why Israel is not an apartheid state, this is a very handy reference volume. Pogrund has long stood as Israel's propagandist-in-chief on this topic, partly because he can bring to the debate his background as a former South African academic who claims, on this basis, superior insight about what apartheid truly is. In actuality, his analysis is a patchwork of polemics and random arguments drawing from everywhere except the most authoritative source, which is international law. Instead, he tends to emphasize practices and appearances (such as voting rights, which differ from the South African system) rather than definitions of apartheid developed by the international community (for which the significance of voting rights is contingent on whether they actually serve or relieve racial domination). Indeed, Pogrund doesn't engage with law effectively here at all. The book consists of several essays he's written over the years, glued together with transition material to make them into a book, but is mostly polemical and also reflects his own biases that contradict stark evidence. For example, he casts the entire settlement project in the occupied territories as the work of crazed extremists, instead of the coherent and official state-led project that it obviously is. About the Author

Leah M. Webb, MPH, obtained her health coach certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Biology from Appalachian State University and a Master of Public Health degree in Environmental Health Sciences from Georgia Southern University. She has worked in nutrition and gardening education since 2009 with a focus on engaging children in healthy eating habits through experiential learning and discovery. Leah started and runs the Deep Rooted Wellness blog, on which she posts stories and tips regarding nutrition, gardening, and healthy families. Leah lives in the mountains of North Carolina with her husband, T. C., and her two children, Owen and June. Owen has a life-threatening anaphylactic allergy to wheat, and June has cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease severely impacting the lungs and pancreas. Leah’s commitment to a restrictive, nutrient-dense diet has played an important role in her children’s integrative care. This was my first Jasper Fforde book and after I began to read it I realised that he is quite a talent! What a wonderous idea to have text based life forms. A very unique view point of reading and the written word. If you are not a bibliophile, then don't bother. The pace is fast and the action fantastic. And incredible find.

I really like all of the Thursday Next series but this is a 'like' rather than 'love' along with the other of the books that is entirely set in Bookworld, The Well of Lost Plots. I find the books set in an alternative Swindon more entertaining. It could be just me.

Jasper Fforde has done it again.A truly entertaining and very clever novel following on in the Thursday Next series.I have yet to read a book of his that I have not enjoyed!!

It carries on the story in good tradition. It's not as fast paced as some of the others, but still a great read. I enjoyed it

I love Jasper Fforde....his work is always so tongue in cheek and full of literary puns. If you like intelligent books which don't take themselves too seriously...well not seriously at all really...then you'll love his work. This is his latest and I thought it was up there with the rest of them....can't beat the first one The Eyre Affair though so I've only given it 4 stars.

Wow, yet another spin on the Nextian universe, refreshing different from the last couple of books. Jasper Fforde amazes me with his constant changes and point-of-views.Felt a little lighter in plot that others in the series, but this was offset by the wonderfully witty and reinvented BookWorld. Almost like a series reboot!I am constantly amazed at the wordplays and use of language. A bonus on reading this on my Kindle was being able to use the built-in dictionary to look up all the new (real) words sprinkled through the story!

Once again Fforde took me through the exiting world of books. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and can only recommend fellow readers to embrace the book for an exiting adventure.

The Just Bento Cookbook 2 is wonderful! It retains the same easy-to-follow format of the first book, while adding more highlighted hints and tips sections, and more pictorial how-to instructions, which are all excellent upgrades, in my opinion. I have used the first Just Bento Cookbook regularly for years, and this one retains all of the things I love about the original, while making smart adjustments that keep modern lifestyles in mind, such as the “express” section for those days you need a faster option. The photos are beautiful, the recipes are very easy to follow, and there are ample descriptions and definitions of any ingredients or methods you may be unfamiliar with or intimidated by, making bento not only totally accessible for just about anyone, but thoroughly enjoyable as well. I highly recommend both Just Bento and Just Bento 2!

This is a great follow-up to "The Just Bento Cookbook." New recipes, lovely photos and clear instructions make this an instant favorite on my cookbook shelf. The inclusion of variation recipes is a great help when you have similar ingredients but don't want to make the same thing over and over again. The tips on freezing dishes for your stash and instructions on how to pack different items in the bento will empower anyone to make their own quick and healthy lunches.

Maki is the one who heralded the bento revolution, with her website and her book. Followed her for years. This second book offers variations on the first and also with new recipes. The photographs are just fine. As a result of her influence, I have several different kinds of bento boxes, even a favorite ordered from Japan. Have taken bentos to a very large annual quilt show in Santa Clara, CA, and watched tablemates be interested in my bento lunches. Gave bento boxes as gifts. Maki aims for non-Japanese (like me) to learn about and actually make and enjoy the recipes. The presentations are beautiful. To have another book by her is a joy. Thank you, Makiko Itoh, a real chef and inspiration known worldwide.

I was a big fan of the first Just Bento Cookbook and eagerly preordered this book as soon as it was made available. If you have the first book, you might be a bit disappointed - it felt like many of the recipes were repeated. There are more variations of the basic recipes but it felt like the number of actual recipes got cut down. However, it is still a good supplement to the first book as it does have very useful "time crunch" recipes like microwave chicken, which are always useful. I can see the amount of thought poured into this book as it was reformatted for better flow and divided between the "make ahead" bentos and the "day of" recipes, which is always useful.My biggest issue (and the reason why I had to knock off a star) were the pictures. I think the author mentioned that she took the photos herself this time, which wasn't a problem. However, I don't know if it was her camera or the image got blown up or what happened but the photos in the book came out grainy/out of focus/overly sharpened. It was extremely frustrating because it made the food look a lot less appetizing and made the book overall look unprofessional. A large part of the first book's appeal were the photos of the bentos and it just bothered me to no end seeing photos that looked like they were taken with a phone and then uploaded onto Facebook, especially because so much care was put into the lighting/arrangement. Additionally, there were a lot less photos despite more recipes, which was disappointing. It was a lot less fun pursuing through the book and choosing something I actually wanted to make because of it. I really hope that if they reprint the book, they can figure out how to fix the picture quality because it is dragging down an otherwise lovely cookbook.

I pre-ordered this book as soon as it was announced, waited for what seemed a long time, and am not at all disappointed. This time the focus is on ease and efficiency of preparation, which gives more options in the long run. This lady is the leading English-speaking expert on bento and her insights on obtaining and preparing all sorts of Japanese and non-Japanese ingredients is very useful. I could easily go for a year on the information and recipes in both books and not repeat much unless it is a real hot favorite. But I think that as with the first book I will go on using many of my favorite meals and combinations, and feel healthier because these are so well thought out. Thank you Makiko for your creativity, your tasty recipes, and most of all for your perseverance. VERY much worth the wait!

I loved the first book and I love this one just as much! Very easy and quick bento for beginners (me) and lots of alternatives to change things up.

I started making Bento a few months ago and this cookbook as well as the Just Bento is great! The recipes are simple and the discussion about Bento is clear and makes the process much easier. I've tried many of the recipes and despite the simplicity and quickness they are surprisingly good. I'd recommend to anyone starting or trying to broaden their Bento efforts.

I have the first book by this author and the improvements made to this book are really good. There are a lot of veggie options for non meaters which I thoroughly enjoy. Yet the meat recipes are equally as good and have a good amount of portion of control. Definitely a good book to have if you want to start getting into meal prep for the week.

Based on the reviews, I expected this took take an amusing look at marriage, but at least contain something about love, and perhaps something my husband would enjoy hearing read .... but there's nothing nice inferred about a spouse anywhere to be seen. It's more accurately a book of poems about dissatisfaction in marriage.

This book was the worst. First of all it is not poetry. It is a book of ramblings of unhappy married people. What they are saying is true but what a sad state their marriage is. We have been happily married for 47 years. Even my husband thought the book is without merrit. Maybe it is an age difference but I wouldn't waste my money on it.

Hate Poems for Almost Divorced People is a more accurate title. HATED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. I feel sorry for the person who wrote it. What a sad way to be together. I've been married 20 years and I realize marriage is not all butterflies and rainbows, but this is ridiculous. If you want a book that is accurate to the title, don't get this one. It's crap.

I don’t understand the negative reviews- this isn’t supposed to be Pablo Neruda. Hilarious poems about relationships. It will likely make you feel better about your own marriage (or your decision to be single)! I read it to my companion out loud and it makes us both laugh out loud.

I have to wonder whether the author has been spying on my marriage. It makes me and the hubs feel better to know others are in the same boat, and provides us with chuckles.

Love these poems - funny to both me and my husband (we will be married 10 years this August, and have two kids under 5yrs old).

The Redwall series by Brian Jaques was basically The literary staple of my childhood, and Mossflower will always be one of my favorites. The writing is fun for all ages - it's easy to read, but doesn't dumb itself down so much that adults won't enjoy it. The characters are fun and unique, and the worldbuilding that went into this series is incredible. Mossflower is a prequel to the first book, "Redwall," and while I would suggest reading Redwall first, it definitely stands alone, as do most of the books in the series. If nothing else, his descriptions of food WILL make you hungry. I spent so many hours as a child attempting to recreate the recipes he described....

This series is the best read I have found in the last 15 or 20 years!it has drama, it has suspense, it has action, it has sadness, it has happiness, it has humor, there are so many things that this book has going for it! yes it may be classified as a children's book, but I am not the only adult to read & enjoy & be hooked on this series of books.From page one, it grabs your attention & it never lets go till the end...but then it is really not the end because when you begin to read the next book, it too, gets you hooked from Page 1.I highly recommend this book & the series(22 books in all) to anyone, adult or younger, who likes a great story of how the hero saves the day with his charm, his humor & his bravery.

I'm listening\reading to these in publication order, so this book two. I enjoyed the Audible presentation. My one critique is that the audio could use some remastering to equalize voice levels. A few of the voice actors were far more quiet than the others, thus listening required quite a bit of volume adjustment.I do hope Audible works on filling in the availability gaps within the Redwall series line.

I bought this as a gift for a little boy. I had already bought him Book 1 which he enjoyed very much. My two boys read every one of Brian Jacques books in the Redwall Series and I believe there were 20+. I started reading Book 1, 2, 3 and so on....to them before they could read and over the years they started reading on their own. You cannot beat Brian Jacques and his Redwall Books for storytelling genius, excitement and glorious detail for kids of all ages!

The Redwall series of books is well written and perfect for both young and young-at-heart readers. It’s a fantasy set full of adventures of good versus evil, coming of age, finding bravery and friendship, reveling in poetry and song, and feasting as if at the end of a ten season famine! Brian Jacques crafted wonderful friends and heroes ate Redwall Abbey, and you’ll enjoy meeting them again and again!

I'm not kidding, this book is really good! I don't care how old you are, I believe you'll enjoy this one. Easy to read, flows very smoothly the entire time, loveable characters, vivid scenery, and cowardly villians. I really don't know how they can say give this book a reading age of 9-12.. That almost made me not want to read it, but I'm sure glad that I did and look forward to reading the next one.My favorite part of the book? It'd be hard to say, but I'd have to go with the battle between Martin and Queen Tsarmina. There were lots of other great scenes too though. One question I have is why didn't Gingivere ever help in the fight against his evil sister?? He would have been a great help in the fighting besides being able to carry Abbess Germaine quickly back to the injured Martin. I guess he's just a pussycat though.I highly reccomend this book along with Redwall. To anyone.

This is a wonderful story about a misfit mouse. He and his friends fight for their home, have many adventures. The big question is Does Mattias find his place in life? I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as the rest of the series.

My son loved the first six Redwall books he read before he aged out of Middle Grade reading. I am buying the series in hardcover so I have them to read with my someday grandchildren.
