A short, but concise, work centered upon Leonidas I. Author kept his focus on his stated subject, and didn't get turned aside from it. He brought up some interesting facts about the situation, which I had not known, such as Leonidas' circuitous route to the kingship. All-in-all, a quick and educational work dealing with a major turning point in history. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in Leonidas, or the battle of Thermopylae.
Ancient Sparta has a certain magic to it, as being the dominant military power of it's time. The book very well captures the stardust that Ancient Greece holds to itself to this day. The story of Leonidas is worth the price in itself. For someone with a passion in European history, such as myself, books like this are gems and a pleasure to read.
Writing a legacy novel about Spartan King Leonides is an interesting way to picture how a Spartan King defends his homeland. I enjoyed reading the story, though short because of the limited amount of what we know of the Spartan King's life. The one thing I didn't care for wad the overuse of the word "proverbs".
If like me, you are the type who enjoys reading about the history and culture of a certain country or race, this is the right book for you. It is interesting, culturally correct and obviously well researched. I enjoyed reading about the man behind the hero!

Not a bad book, but written at a 7th grade level at best. If you're looking for solid historical research or illuminating facts and information, definitely look elsewhere!!
This is a pamphlet- written at a middle school level- sold by SuperBookDeals. Nowhere in the description does it reflect that- and even though I returned it on the day I received it- I was required to pay the return postage.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a period of history that I am very interested in and I have read a lot of books on this subject. I wondered if this book would have anything fresh to add or anything different. It certainly did. The author must have done a lot of research and must be very knowledgeable about this. It was interesting and informative in a very easy to read way.
